The Florida State Fair has expanded its People's Choice Burger Awards, meaning unusual creations like a steak sundae and cheesy fried enchilada funnel cake can now become this year's "Fare Favorite."
Chili bacon mac grilled cheese, a Reuben burrito, white Cheddar and bacon pretzel dog, kettle corn ice cream, and the Florida Firecracker burger (stuffed with jalapeño poppers and bacon) are among the other food entries in the annual People's Choice Awards.
Voters can cast their ballots online from today, Monday, Jan. 23, through Jan. 30. The annual Tampa fair — scheduled for Feb. 9-20 at Florida State Fairgrounds — will announce the contest's winner on Jan. 31.
"Over the years, food has become an iconic part of the fair experience, and our vendors work very hard to bring the most delicious and unusual foods to our Fair," said Cheryl Flood, executive director of the Florida State Fair Authority, in a statement. "We're always excited to sample the latest creations."
A new soft drink concession stand, the diner-style Alaskan Soda Jerk, will premiere this year as well, featuring throwback drinks like root beer floats, cherry limeades, shakes and malts.
