Sea Dog Brewing Co. is closer to opening its brewpub on the beach. Setting sail in Treasure Island, Sea Dog Brew Pub at 9610 Gulf Blvd. grows the Maine-born brewing operation's Florida footprint to three locations — and eight locations nationwide — joining outposts in Clearwater and Orlando, plus Maine and New Hampshire.
Sea Dog Brew Pub has been looking to fill front- and back-of-house positions (cooks, bussers, bar backs, servers, dishwashers and hosts) since Sept. 25. The hunt continues Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., but it is the job fair's last day. Candidates are asked to bring their résumés with them to apply in person.
The Treasure Island newcomer also put out a call for photographs of local pooches. Posted to the brewpub's Facebook page, the crowdsourced request has resulted in some seriously adorable responses, which are planned for the on-site "Dog Wall."
Weighing in at 10,000 square feet with 300 seats, the two-story waterfront property — where Blackwater Grille and Captain Kosmakos Bar & Grill previously operated — puts Sea Dog Brew Pub within walking distance of Sunset Beach. Highlights include a dine-in menu influenced by the gulf from executive chef Mark Boyd (think house-smoked seafood and meats), grab-and-go sandwiches for beachgoers in a hurry, and two bars with full liquor.
Yup, booze-booze. Expect a list of Shipyard private-label liquors (Sea Dog is a member of the Shipyard family), beer-infused signature cocktails, and suds from head brewer Bobby Baker, who draws inspiration from area chefs and food-forward brews.
Completion of the elevated restaurant space, locally branded merchandise store and downstairs bar is phase one of the brewpub, while phase two involves a tiki bar with fire pits, Adirondack chairs and boat slips.
"I believe our waterfront bar and open-air dining, beer-infused sauce recipes and signature cocktails, along with the gorgeous views of Sunset Beach right across the street, makes us a destination spot for all locals and vacationers," said general manager Charles Breakiron.
Sea Dog launched in Clearwater with a tasting room and 20-barrel brewhouse four years ago, offering brewery tours, a private event space and daily happy hour specials. Its beachside brewpub is shooting for a fall opening.
