Shawn Mendes w/Charlie Puth The teenage heartthrob who became famous from his short six-second clips of music on the popular app Vine (RIP), comes to Tampa to show off his impressive singing skills and even more extraordinary talent on guitar. The 18-year-old Toronto native is amongst the long list of accomplished Canadians taking the music scene by storm (the Biebs, Drake, The Weeknd). Mendes’ touring partner is Charlie Puth who was featured as a coach on popular NBC show, The Voice. The rest of you probably know him from his famous hit honoring Paul Walker, “See You Again,” which is now the most viewed video on YouTube. (Amalie Arena, Tampa) INFO —MD

Mic Deluxx Video Shoot He’s fucking back. After a few years of mixtapes (and making some of the best damn tacos in Ybor City), Mic Deluxx has returned. He’s keeping the momentum of a recent single release (“The Emcee M I C”) alive by asking supporters and the hip-hop loving public to help him and Anthony Jose film a new clip for the adversity-overcoming “Champion Sun Anthem,” which is the second single from a forthcoming album (The Cost of Living), which Deluxx has described as “world’s first postmodern pre-apocalyptic hip-hop album.” OGs will remember Mic’s time in the Champion Sun collective with Ran Mecca and Phobi-1, and younger heads will do well to kick it with the old-school crew. Look for the album — Deluxx’s first official LP — to drop on Labor Day Weekend. (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO

The Punknecks For the first time ever, I’m about to type the phrase “punk-country.” Why you say? Because these sexy hillbillies from L.A. are making their way down to Fubar for a night of punkytonk and outlaw bluegrass all delivered on the shoulders of a show the husband and wife duo have been refining since 2005. Clare Bowen w/Charles Esten/Chris Carmack/Jonathan Jackson Music is the universal language, or so says Clare Bowen, star of the hit show Nashville. Growing up in Australia, where Bowen says she spent more time with animals than people, had its social limitations. Through music however, Clare has found her outlet and voice. Bowen, who has no major recent releases, loves to play shows in between shooting for Nashville, and fans of her character Scarlett O’Connor will get to hear some songs from the hit show as well as some of Bowen’s own limited catalog. Talking Dreads Do you like the Talking Heads, mon? These Jamaican dudes certainly do, and they are bringing their Caribbean, tropical imitation act to the State Theatre. Former Tom Tom Club member Mystic Bowie is a good friend of the original Talking Heads members, so there will be slight air of authenticity to go along with whatever aromas happen to be floating around the audience that day.
