Last week, Spaghetti Warehouse in Ybor City revealed it would close its doors, effective March 10.

Since opening in 1983, the neighborhood restaurant has provided a space for countless special occasions — birthdays, anniversaries or just a lunch out with friends.

Many of Spaghetti Warehouse's lasagna fans were shocked about the closure announcement, and have lined up daily to reminisce about memories made and savor the Italian cuisine once more.

Jennifer Hamilton, waiting to be seated with her girlfriend for lunch on Tuesday, said she was really disappointed when she heard the news. She now lives outside the Tampa Bay area, but dines at the restaurant each time she's in town.

"They have been here so long," Hamilton said. "It is one of my favorite places to come to."

For her last meal, she planned to order two of her favorites: the popular lasagna and a glass of red sangria.

Grady Matthews has been coming to the Ybor Square restaurant since it opened. He was awaiting the arrival of his family — his ex-wife, daughter, grandson and sister — for a goodbye-Spaghetti-Warehouse lunch.

"I just remember Christmas shopping with my kids, and coming here and having dinner or lunch if it was early in the day," Matthews said.

Though the announcement upset him, he's holding out hope that another Spaghetti Warehouse will pop up elsewhere in the region.

Hillsborough Community College's police academy also rolled in for what has become a tradition.

"Every time we pass a test, we come here," said one of the students in the group.

The 10 classmates had only stopped by three times prior, making this their fourth visit. Yet, they were shocked when they learned of the news, and sad because the restaurant had become a convenient spot for their celebratory feasts.

When asked what their favorite dishes are, they listed almost everything on the menu — "baked ziti, chicken parm, spaghetti, cheese ravioli, cheesecake…"

Spaghetti Warehouse will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, for the last time.
