Playboi Carti w/Young Nudy/Pierre Bourne Rather be caught dead than at Nickelback? Not to fear, another high profile hits Tampa on the first of August when much-hyped hip-hop prospect Playboi Carti takes over the Orpheum. His single “Magnolia” has been plugged by rap icons like Jay-Z as one of the best songs of the year, and Carti has been successfully touring the country and festival circuit behind the buzz. At this year’s Rolling Loud festival, Carti was joined on stage by A$AP Rocky for what many considered one of the best performances of the weekend. Tickets are probably running low on this one, but finding one will be worth it since this is an opportunity to see one of the more exciting talents coming up today. (Orpheum, Ybor City) INFO

Nickelback w/Daughtry Okay, so I’m going to play the devil’s advocate here. Nickelback isn’t that bad. Admit it, you remember that younger, not as hip version of yourself singing that annoyingly catchy song off the Spiderman soundtrack (“Hero”) or belting “Look at this photograph” while driving down the road. Hell, I bet you even had “Rockstar” as your Myspace profile page song. Look, we all may not want to admit it, but there was a time each of us had a moment liking Nickelback. The band’s Tampa stop is in support of its new album Feed The Machine, so if you are one of the rare out-of-the-closet Nickelback fans headed to the old Gary amp, then feel free to frolic unabashedly to one of the most bubble gum metal bands not named Creed.
