Good Tuesday to you. Irma may be gone, but her effects are still being felt across our region and the entire state.
Some Bay area counties began curbside storm debris pick-up yesterday. And no, filling that broken fridge that's been sitting in your garage for two years with dead leaves does not make it "storm debris."
Speaking of Irma storm damage, it looks like St. Pete's freeFall theatre will be able to fix its roof thanks to a sizable matching donation by two local philanthropists. Thank you so much, two local philanthropists. Did I mention my roof also needs fixing? Did I say "roof"? "Life." My life needs fixing. I suspect money might help.
Speaking of overcoming Irma storm damage, the Dali Museum's famous "Wish Tree," which was knocked down during the storm, has been replanted in the museum's "Avant-garden." The only real question is, where did somebody wish for the Wishing Tree to be saved while the Wishing Tree itself was out of commission? Mall fountain? Rooftop shooting star-watching party? Tierney's eyelash wish? I bet it was Tierney's eyelash wish.
And finally, some bad news: with Irma floodwaters still pouring into the Withlacoochee River, it looks like some 2,000 homes in Hernando County and beyond are in immediate danger of being flooded when the river crests this week, possibly tomorrow. So yeah, stuff is still going on that makes your being without power for three or four days seem like not such a big deal. If you're there, be ready, and if you're not, be ready to help if you can.
