Daniel Ruth in today's St. Pete Times joins in on the parade of Tampa columnists and reporters who are penning encomiums for Dick Greco in the wake of his (somewhat) surprising failure to crack the top two in this week's Tampa mayor race, joining William March, Sue Carlton and Patrick Manteiga. Time constraints prevent us from writing our own piece this morning, but we will follow suit soon.

One reason we have to get out of here this morning is that we'll be a panelist at a Hillsborough County League of Women Voters debate being taped today on the District 1 City Council race between Mike Suarez and Curtis Stokes.  Also originally scheduled for today was the first debate between Rose Ferlita and Bob Buckhorn, which has been postponed until next Friday.  Yesterday a slate of four specific debate dates were announced; the first will be next Tuesday night, as the St. Pete Times and Bay News 9 try to reprise the magic of their initial debate at Blake High School.

Although even its sponsor doesn't expect it to get through the Legislature, one Florida House Democrat is proposing to have the state of Florida get rid of the death penalty.

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers plans a protest at several Publix grocery stores tomorrow – and Publix is hitting back.

And a new poll exposes that yes, sometimes even the Tea Party can be accused of hypocrisy, at least when it comes to them acknowledging that serious cuts are needed for Medicare & Social Security to bring down the debt and deficit.
