We're as down with Tampa female alt/rock/pop/roots outfit A Girl Named Noah as every other newspaper whose offices share a building with the former lesbian club where they used to play fairly often. But while they are a tight, capable, crowd-pleasing outfit, calling them "new" seems a bit of a stretch, considering the fact that an old GeoCities website of theirs features a blurb Scott wrote about 'em in 1997. Granted, we seem to remember a rather long hiatus, and last year's incarnation sported several new members. So we'll call it even. They worked for it, anyway, first by getting their fans out all over the state, then by getting them to actually fill out ballots. But ladies, consider yourselves on notice: If you win Best New Band again next year, at least change the group's name on your way to doing it, OK?
