Tampa is a military town, which means there’s lot of former veterans from past and current wars living in the region, and in some cases, struggling to make things work after serving the nation.
Locally Sara Romeo’s Crossroads organization has tried to make a difference with some female vets who have become homeless. And for those who vets in need of other essential services, there will be an opportunity this Saturday to become more informed with an event called “Tampa Bay Stand Down: Stand Up for Women Veterans 2011,” taking place in Al Lopez Park in Tampa.
Organizers say that there will be experts available to provide (the beginnings of?) medical and mental health care, legal consultation, financial advice, as well as basic necessities such as clothes – and employment service personnel will also be present.
