• Connie Mack

It's been the perception among some Florida political analysts that the four major candidates vying for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate next year have not exactly distinguished themselves, and if the election were next week instead of next year, Bill Nelson would probably be re-elected.

Apparently, Connie Mack IV has been having some of those same thoughts.

The Fort Myers area Congressman announced months ago when the race was still forming that he wouldn't be candidate. But that changed Wednesday night, when allies to the Republican informed the media that he would in fact, be getting into the race.

Does it make him the favorite? Not necessarily, but a Sachs/Mason-Dixon poll released in February showed that with the exception of Jeb Bush (who is obviously not a candidate), Mack polled best next to Senator Nelson, trailing him 45-40.
