• Harry Shum Jr. on The Glee Project

This week on The Glee Project, the contestants were challenged on their ability to dance. Naturally, the guest judge was Harry Shum Jr., who plays Mike Chang on Glee and has an extensive background in dance. As in previous weeks, however, the contenders weren’t really tested on how well they could dance. This was a blessing, since most of them either had two left feet or relied on random gyration, and left the mentors to yet again evaluate the contender’s enthusiasm and ability to jump into a character.

During the Homework Challenge, the contestants sang and danced to Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.” Most of them were bland, but Samuel channeled Michael Jackson while Matheus grinded air. Alex — who boasted of being the best dancer in the competition — did a pirouette and some booty bouncing, and I was glad to see that I wasn’t the only one who thought his moves inappropriate. Like Harry commented: Just because you can do a certain move, doesn’t mean you should every time. To top it off, shortly after Samuel won the challenge, Alex stated nonchalantly that he wasn’t really trying because he wanted to let someone else shine. Sure.
