It hasn't been the most secure time for leaders of Hillsborough County public agencies over the past year and a half.
Louis Miller "retired" from being the head of Tampa International Airport in 2010, HART CEO David Armijo was dumped by his board back in April, and on Tuesday, the fate of Tampa Port Authority Director Richard Wainio was possibly in jeopardy as board members met to discuss a new contract for him.
But the critics of the Port Authority director lost out, as the board, voting on a substitute motion offered by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, agreed to extend his contract by two years. His contract currently lasts through next March, which means he's at least scheduled to be around for at least two and a half more years.
Buckhorn's motion received one more vote (passing 4-2) than an original proposal by Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman that the board offer him a one-year contact.
