Burn the Floor, a ballroom dance showcase that’s been described in reviews using every “hot” adjective in the thesaurus, also could be called “Dance 101 for the Short Attention Span Crowd.”

This week at the Straz, two dozen dancers representing a good portion of the globe (Australia, England, Italy, Venezuela, South Africa, Slovenia and the United States) demonstrate the “international style” of dancing, used in competition since the 1920s. With plenty of quick changes and smooth segues, Burn the Floor is a nonstop carousel, spinning through the “Five Standard Dances” and the “Five Latin Dances” and back again, leaving the audience exhausted, entertained and a bit more educated about classic choreography.
