• The Sierra Club’s Allison Chin and Congresswoman Kathy Castor meet the press in St. Pete

Unlike recent presidential elections, there has been little discussion about the environment in the Obama-Romney contest.

There is the issue of climate change, which both Barack Obama and John McCain agreed was a problem in 2008. Mitt Romney said he believes global warming is man-made, but “there remains a lack of scientific consensus on the issue.”

Monday, at The Pier in St. Petersburg, Sierra Club President Allison Chin said although the Obama administration plans on tackling the issue by increasing the fuel efficiency standards of all U.S. made vehicles, it is frustrating that more isn’t being done right now.

“We’re in a race,” Chin said. “We’re looking at catastrophes that are going to happen out in the future.”

She added that Florida is “Ground Zero for climate change. We’re talking about losing coastal shorelines. I just don’t know how much louder you have to trump the horn.”
