Territory bands were a huge part of the jazz and swing boom in the 1920s, '30s and '40s, bringing popular songs and standards to rural areas of the U.S. that big-name stars typically would never visit. As radio and later television became more commonplace, these proto-cover bands started to die out, but some bands still continue the tradition today, such as NYC-based group The Swingaroos, who are bringing their own swinging flare to Florida Studio Theatre with a new month-long cabaret show, Music of the Night, for which they’ll re-interpret classic jazz standards by composers such as the Gershwins, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and more.
