The Hillsborough County Commission is considering lifting a countywide ban on gay pride events and will discuss the matter at its Wednesday, June 5 meeting. The commission originally passed the ban on gay pride recognition eight years ago, in 2005. Openly gay Commissioner Kevin Beckner recently made a motion calling for the repeal of the measure.

Equality Florida is calling for members of the local LGBT community and its supporters to wear red and attend the meeting to support equality. The meeting will be held on June 5 at County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. Arrive at 8:15 a.m. to sign up to speak during the public comment period at 9 a.m. or 10:15 a.m. to attend the meeting and speak during the public hearing.
