Ever wondered how sea salt gets into your pantry — well, aside from that trip to the grocery store? In August, Florida Pure Sea Salt owner Maureen Cacioppo pulls back the curtain with a day of tasting and cooking at St. Petersburg’s Casa di Mazzaro, the kitchen and houseware sibling of the venerable Mazzaro’s Italian Market.

During the interactive, hands-on event — hosted from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 — Cacioppo plans to demonstrate part of the sea salt-making process while discussing the history behind the mineral. The salt pro will prepare a few simple dishes with participants, too; each recipe, of course, is meant to showcase the universal seasoning.

Afterward, guests are welcome to shop the store with a 10-percent discount.

Tickets cost $45 per person, and participants should call Casa di Mazzaro to RSVP. To ensure accommodations are made, they’re also asked to notify the store of any food allergies or dietary restrictions as soon as possible.
