Ah, Easter weekend. The one weekend every year where my mom brings me a rabbit-sized York Peppermint Patty. It's also the weekend where I make my Easter Zombie Jesus Peep cupcakes, because tradition, people. It matters. But if you don't have such traditions, you may be looking for something fun to do that's vaguely rebirth-related. Behold, rebirth/Easter/Pesach-related things to do this weekend.
10. Take your pup on an Easter egg hunt
Hey, it beats candy you really don't want. Plus, dogs!
9. Take yourself on an Easter egg hunt — but classy-like
The Morean has a kick-ass glass shop, and they're going big with the egg hunt. Sunday morning, they'll hide hand-blown glass eggs along Central Avenue between I-275 and 5th St. and, hey, finders keepers. They're hiding one egg per block and they tell us no two eggs will look alike. And, if you find the egg, you get a free glassblowing demo (every hour on the hour, Sun., 1-4 p.m. and Mon.-Sat., 12-4 p.m.) if you show it to the Hot Shop between Sunday and Apr. 30.
8. Have a Passover Seder dinner instead
Hey, it doesn't even have to be instead of Easter dinner — because it's tonight (Friday) and it's going to have lots of yummy things. And, hey, if you want to make your own Passover Seder but have a celiac or gluten-averse person in the fam, check out our guide to a gluten-free Seder.
7. Drink some jelly bean beer
We are totally not making that up. Check it out at Pair O'Dice brewing.
6. Have a Birch-y brunch
Bottomless mimosas for $15. We assume there'll be food at Birch & Vine also, but, honestly, we didn't get much past that whole "mimosa" thing.
5. Nothing says Easter like "Krispy Kreme donut pudding"
And nothing should. On the Tampa side of Tampa Bay, this a la carte brunch includes the aforementioned pudding (and some yummy proteins, too).
4. Go see him become HIR
Hey, if the spirit of Easter is being born again, nothing fits the bill better than Taylor Mac's HIR, in its final weekend at Jobsite. We gave it an adoring, elated, joyous five stars. It closes Sunday, though, so don't miss it.
3. Win some things at Easter Drag Queen Bingo
If you've never attended Drag Queen Bingo, you're totes missing the best Bingo ever. This week's 5 p.m. games benefit the Just Dance Academy.
2. Awaken your inner alchemist
If you want to take the idea of rebirth seriously, Awakening the Alchemista at The Body Electric is a damn fine way to start. It's part guided meditation, part discussion, part making art.
1. One more brunch
I'm kinda partial to this place, which is why I failed at not mentioning them. I mean, three brunches? But Nueva Cantina has an AYCE brunch, a Bloody bar with 20 different fixins, and hash browns that will literally make you see Jesus. And isn't that what Easter's all about?
Well, OK, that — and Zombie Peeps.
