Since its inception in April 1970, Earth Day’s been about cleanup. There was no Clean Air Act, no Clean Water Act, and no Environmental Protection Agency back then. According to the EPA, “Before 1970, a factory could spew black clouds of toxic smoke into the air or dump tons of toxic waste into a nearby stream, and that was perfectly legal.” A lot has changed since then, but the cleanup lives on, especially around Tampa Bay. Not in the mood to pick up after other people this Earth Day? Several Tampa-Bay-area events provide creative ways to enjoy this beautiful planet we live on.
