Save for the lack of a traditional rock club, downtown Tampa’s Water Street district is almost crying for a full-on, multi-venue music festival.

The neighborhood will test the waters this weekend when more than a dozen different local acts from reggae favorites (Tribal Style), club staples (DJ Deacon), jazz ensembles (In the Pocket) join Bay area “American Idol” hopefuls Abi & Sam Kiefer (who never made it on air) for a no-cover day of concerts at Water Street’s Raybon Plaza, Sparkman Wharf and a pop-up stage on Water Street itself. Roaming musicians are also part of the programming along with a kids instrument petting zoo and more.

There’s no cover for Beats on the Street happening Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Water Street district in downtown Tampa. Subscribe to Creative Loafing newsletters.
