I'm a firm believer that Sundays should be no more academic than the New York Times Magazine. Today, my friends, is not an average Sunday. This past week was exceptional in terms of sex research findings that you will surely enjoy, even on your day of rest.
rone and estradiol combined with high levels of SHBG were three times as likely to break a bone than men with average sex hormones.
*Estradiol is the hormone that provides estrogen effects in men and women
^SHBG is a protein that binds testosterone and estradiol in the blood, and can reduce circulating sex steriod concentrations, which hightens the risk for fractures
A similarly groundbreaking study: A new study reveals that men are not as picky as women in their casual sex encounters. Get out! The study—which was published in the journal Human Nature this past Tuesday—asked 860 American, German and Italian students to imagine being approached by members of the opposite sex. British researchers asked the participants to imagine "slightly unattractive", "moderately attractive", and "exceptionally attractive" members of the opposite sex. The participants were then asked what their response would be if each of these types were to ask them to go out, go to their apartment, or to go to bed with them.
The study found that the 427 men were more likely to accept offers of casual sex from members of the opposite sex. Also, they were more likely to engage in all three acts; go out, go to the apartment, and go to bed, from all levels of attractiveness.
Women, however, are more particular. Men needed to be in the category of "exceptionally attractive" for them to engage in the act of casual sex.
