SLIDIN' THROUGH
Slide guitar aficionados have experienced an embarrassment of riches over the last couple weeks. On the heels of Roy Rogers' appearance at the Tampa Bay Blues Fest comes Sonny Landreth at Skippers in a WMNF show. The two have a mutual admiration society, and it's easy to see why, what with each being one of the best and most distinctive slidists on the international scene. Landreth hails from Louisiana, and brings a fair helping of that particular mojo to his music. His ax work can raise the hackles on your neck with its metallic sizzle and jaw-dropping dexterity. Landreth's latest CD, the live Grant Street, finds him returning to a club in Lafayette where he once played regular gigs. It smokes. So should the Skipper's show.
Sonny Landreth w/Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes at Skipper's Smokehouse, Sun., March 27, 6 p.m., $15 advance, $18 d.o.s.
