The Hiss hits all the right notes in re-creating the cocksure sounds of 1960s blooze, garage and mod-rock. The Atlanta quartet (formerly of Florida), being brought to town by New Granada Presents, delivers hot licks from the Keith Richards playbook, goosed by barroom piano and sold with appropriate sass by raspy-voiced lead singer/guitarist Adrian Barrera — especially on the should-be-a-hit-single "Don't Leave Me Out." Other numbers have a more Stooges/White Stripes/Velvet Underground vibe. Joining The Hiss, which will hit the stage at midnight, on the triple bill are the Orlando shoegaze outfit Strangers (11 p.m.) and eclectic roots-rockers November Foxtrot Whiskey (10 p.m.), another fine Tampa Bay band associated with our impressive Americana scene.
The Hiss w/Strangers/November Foxtrot Whiskey, 9 p.m. (door) Thurs. July 31, New World Brewery, Ybor City, $6.
