Kings of Leon, Come Around Sundown (out tomorrow, October 19, 2010, on Sony)
Kings of Leons new release, Come Around Sundown, picks up where 2008s acclaimed Only By The Night leaves off: sexy, sultry, tap-your-feet songs delivered in a written in the studio style bedecked by Caleb Followills do me vocals. However, there is a genuine sense of growth musically and drive to out-do themselves in the simple-yet-full production. My relationship with Kings of Leon has been off and on. Right now, its on-ish. Co-eds who loved their last album will like this one, but only after one of these tracks blows up Top 40 radio. I think Pyro maybe the top contender.
Deborah Sleigh Bells, Treats (2010)
I've got a feeling I'm not the only one dragging this morning after a week overloaded with live music (check out my reviews of the Built to Spill and Caribou shows posting soon). I'm pushing through with a potent mix of caffeine and Sleigh Bells. The New York duo makes hard-hitting pop filled with searing guitars, chanted cheerleader-like vocals, and pounding drums that keep your energy on high. After the jump, take a peek at the video for "Infinity Guitars" that MTV has just put into heavy rotation.
