The 2008 edition of AIDS Walk-St. Petersburg gets underway Saturday at North Shore Park. Since its inception in 2004, the 5K waterfront promenade has seen its fundraising momentum increase substantially with each passing year, from its inaugural $18,500 all the way to its target of $125,000 this fall. As always, proceeds benefit clients of AIDS Service Association of Pinellas (ASAP), the largest HIV/AIDS service organization in the county. WFLA-News Channel 8's Stacie Schaible serves as Grand Marshal, the Master of Ceremonies is ASAP's own Ann Sherman White, and live entertainment is provided by special guests rockers Double M Band, local singer/actress Sharon E. Scott, and Everyone's Youth United and Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corp. HIV prevention information and testing are offered by a mobile unit from ASAP. Interested participants may register in advance at aidwalkstpete.org, or in person beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday morning; the walk commences at 10 a.m. Sat., Sept. 13, North Shore Park, 12th Avenue N.E. and North Shore Drive, St. Petersburg.
