The ’09 art season kicks off with a new show at Clay and Paper Inc., a studio and gallery owned and operated by cast paper artist Barbara Melby-Burhans and her husband, potter Ira Jon Burhans. With a Little Help from Our Friends celebrates Clay and Paper’s 25th anniversary via works by 25 of the duo’s artist friends. Among the participants are Sharon Scalise, a jewelry maker who uses glass-enamel cloisonné and silver and gold smithing techniques to create vibrant “Modern Ancient” pins, pendants and earrings; San Antonio Pottery owner Jack Boyle, who’s been throwing bowls, mugs and platters on the wheel for more than 30 years, his pieces both functional and exquisite; and ceramicist Lisa Glaser, who produces whimsical, satirical sculptures of birds, fish, dogs and cats involved in various amusing pursuits. Also on display are mosaics, mixed media, paintings, furniture, linoleum block prints, etchings, metal working and more by Steve and Nancy Eggert, Siobhan Nehin, Rike Kallaugher, Kiaralinda, Jack Breit, Vivie Dimmit, Michele Tuegel, Joyce Curvin, Jeff Ganiere and others. Jan. 3-Feb. 8, with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Sat., Jan. 10. Regular hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, Clay and Paper/Painted Fish Gallery, 350 Main St., Dunedin, 727-736-0934.
