The longest serving member of Congress has passed on; West Virginia Democratic U.S. Senator Robert Byrd died this morning at the age of 92.

John McCain went on Meet The Press yesterday and essentially said the war will turn favorably for the U.S. and Afghanistan simply if Barack Obama renounces his previously declared announcement of withdrawing troops a year from now there.

CIA Director Leon Panetta, in his first Sunday morning television appearance, said it wasn't worth it to negotiate with members of the Taliban.  He also admitted what is well known – the truly bad guys who might hurt the U.S. are in Pakistan, not Afghanistan.
