Welcome to On the Radar, where we preview upcoming arts events to mark your calendars for. You may not have heard of DIY filmmaker Helen Hill, but you can get to know her a little better this Sunday when The Studio@620 screens Animated Wonderland, a retrospective of 10 shorts, in honor of her mission to bring the art filmmaking to the people. Using low-budget processes (Super 8, hand-processing, and drawing on film), Hill tried to show the world that "“you don’t need to keep up with the latest technology to make a good film, you just need a good idea." Three years ago, Hill's life was cut short by a random act of violence, but today's fundraiser ensures that her work — and legacy — continue. Proceeds go toward completing Hill's final unfinished film, for which she received a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation.
