Camera Obscura, Let's Get Out of This Country (2006)
I pulled out this sweet twee gem from '06 to offset the frenetic goings-on of the holidays. Scottish band Camera Obscura is like a candy store of shimmering melodies, delicate vocals and catchy choruses that mirror the sparkle and wintry melancholy of the season.
Gabe Various Artists, Can You Dig It? The '70s Soul Experience [Box set] (2001)
Phenomenal six-disc box set chronicling the best of the best of 1970's soul music. From the obvious to the obscure, this mammoth set is chock full of great songs. Superb remastered sound brings new life to classic selections from the likes of Barry White, Earth, Wind & Fire, Average White Band and Isaac Hayes, to name a few. Highly recommended for any soul enthusiast from the casual fan to the hardcore collector. The cleverly designed 3D cover resembling an old 8-Track Tape case is quite an attention getter, too. Put on the platforms shoes and clear the dancefloor … this set is sure to make you get up and boogie.
