First established after the 2019 passing of Spoto High School’s head of science, the non-profit Becky Walker Scholarship Foundation provides three scholarships per school year to three students across two Title I schools in Hillsborough County.

While Spoto and Tampa’s Leto High School are the only two schools on the foundation’s list at the moment, its long-term goal is to raise enough funding so graduating seniors at all Title I schools in Tampa Bay can have the same opportunity.

Funds for the scholarships mostly come in from events like this Saturday evening bash at one of Tampa Bay’s best wedding spots, which will feature an all-Floridian lineup, headlined by Jacksonville-based “booty shakin’ blues” band Honey Hounds, which spent bits and pieces of last year touring the U.S. (well, Texas, Colorado, Georgia, and Florida anyway) to push its latest album Close To Me.

Joining the guys will be St. Pete singer-songwriter Doug South, the ever-soulful Ed John Trio, and blues rock collective Lou’s Lips, featuring Walker’s eldest son Thompson Brandes.

Each ticket includes an all-you-can-eat buffet, access to an open bar, and the feeling that you contributed to the future of a graduating Title I student’s education.

Tickets to attend Becky’s Bash at Delaney Creek’s Tabellas on Saturday, March 29 cost $100.
