Tonstartssbandht w/The Venus/Mtvh1n1/Justin Depth What is the fucking point of trying to pronounce band names at this point? The name of this one led by Mac Demarco bassist Andy White can be said “TAHN-starts-bandit,” but you might as well let the music do the talking. A good way to get acquainted would be a spin with Overseas, a 2014 LP of tracks compiled from live recordings of the Florida-reared, Brooklyn-based White (plus brother Edwin) making topsy-turvy, ambitious psych-rock driven by Andy’s 12-string Danelectro on what seems like a never-ending tour. It should be enough to get you out to the show, but if you need a push then know that two of our favorite locals — The Venus and Justin Depth — will open the show along with a brand new Bay area act with a funny name, Mtvh1n1. Tampa Bay Music Hall of Fame Festival w/The Tropics/The Hazies/The Black Honkeys/Souliz and the Greg Billings Band The Tampa Bay Music Hall of Fame says that its mission is to “honor and recognize Tampa Bay Area musicians & songwriters young and old, including related music industry professionals, writers, DJs, producers and promoters who have made a contribution to music in the Tampa Bay Area.” That’s a cause we we certainly get behind, and some of the proceeds from this benefit concert that includes The Hazies, an old-school local outfit that had a debut LP released on EMI, will go towards the effort. Rod Stewart w/Cyndi Lauper Beginning Amalie’s week of rock and roll legends is one of the best selling musicians of all time, Rod Stewart. His raspy, coarse vocals are heard throughout some of the most popular songs of the 60s and 70s, where he scored hits with The Jeff Beck Group, Faces and a highly successful solo career. Stewart recently toured Florida with Stevie Nicks, but returns this time with femme pop icon Cyndi Lauper. Whether it’s the pink haired, squinty Lauper crooning out “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” or Stewart charming with classics like “Maggie Mae” or “Young Turks,” July 8 should be a fun, nostalgia-filled evening to enjoy two of music’s best. KatAnna EP Release w/Ella Jet and Future Soul After a few years playing in the Bay area, KatAnna is finally releasing a debut EP where her love of soul and pop can shine on songs like “Too Slow” and “Crazy Eyes.” The addition of Ella Jet makes it an even more intriguing bill, but the icing on the cake comes in the form of Mwiza Simfukwe, who is one of the area’s best new vocalists.(The Attic at Rock Brothers Brewing, Ybor City) INFO

STRFKR w/Repaliens Its name may have its own message and not represent the bands’ ideal brand but the indie pop group’s new album — Being No One, Going Nowhere — is a mostly upbeat dance affair that includes a meaningful message in the lyrics. Plus it shows that these laid-back Portlandians (frontman Josh Hodges, drummer Keil Corcoran and multi-instrumentalist Shawn Glassford) have no interest in fame and becoming “somebody,” but they definitely are attracted to putting on a good show.
