In light of George M. Steinbrenner's passing early Tuesday morning it seems appropriate to not only review his legacy but also search the sports sphere for a fitting successor, even if not necessarily on the baseball field.

“George was The Boss, make no mistake,” Yogi Berra said shortly after the tragic news were released. “He built the Yankees into champions, and that’s something nobody can ever deny. He was a very generous, caring, passionate man.”

Steinbrenner was without a doubt a great man who loved baseball and poured his whole heart and soul into it. The New York Yankees team as a whole benefited as much from his leadership as individual players did. In spite of  his team favoritism it cannot be denied that he was good for the sport as his iconic sports franchise set a fantastic example for others to follow.
