What’s sexy about having your piano tuned?
Jenn Logan [Jenn, Frank’s girlfriend, is a voice and piano teacher and a jazz vocalist. She was present during our interview with Frank at Randy’s Pianos in Clearwater]: It’s like a release. It feels really good to play your instrument again — it’s inviting.
What goes into tuning a piano?
Frank: Each piano has its own little quirks. Some are easier than others. I try to bring out the best in each one.
Do you ever have a customer who wants you to tune more than the piano? Jenn says you’ve run into some characters.
Jenn: One guy, he emailed him… He told him to bring a blanket and a pillow, so in case he had to sit on the floor his asshole wouldn’t get the flu.
How did the two of you meet?
Jenn: His dad is my piano tuner and he suggested we meet to play music together. That was in October.
Frank: I was looking for someone who knew the jazz community.
Jenn: He sent me a Facebook message. He and his father have the same name. I wondered, why is my piano tuner sending me a message asking me about jazz gigs? Then we met for lunch. It was kind of a runaway romance — except that I’m extremely outgoing and he’s kind of shy.
What attracted you to Jenn?
Frank: Everything. We have a lot of things in common: life experiences, family… Then we wrote music together and fell in love. We wrote a song the second day we knew each other.
Tell us about your tattoos.
Frank: These are my son’s handprints [he has two sons, Angelo, 7, and Dominic, 4].
What do you do to keep in shape?
Frank: I run — go to the gym a few times a week. But the main thing is diet — healthy food that’s not processed.

Jenn: We’re going to set up a business where he does nude piano tunings for triple the price — like Dan the nude handyman.
