It might (definitely probably will) get loud at the Bends this Friday night with a Destroyer Fest bill headed up by Miami prog-stoner metal trio Cave of Swimmers. Frontman G.E. Perez leads with a robust operatic vocal quality not unlike Serj Tankian, and juggles between big crunchy guitar riffs, solo shredding and bass synth movements as compadre Arturo García leads the rhythmic charge with tempo-changing and hard playing back-up, with passages soaked in Latin sonic tones ala the seething scorcher that is “The Prince of the Power of the Air” off their 2015 Reflection album. At five tracks, it’s technically an EP though the epic passages of instrumentals clock in past 25 minutes. According to their Bandcamp statement, “we didn’t want to interrupt the flow of the stories by separating each section with a different track, so you’ll find lots of music within each take. For your health.”

Ever more value is added to the bill with warm-up from locally-brewed heavy acts SPAR, Frostfang and Awful People. The show happens 9 p.m. Fri., Feb. 26, at The Bends, 919 1st Ave. N., St. Petersburg; admission is free (ages 21 & up).
