A few weeks ago, Transitions Art Gallery held its last show for the foreseeable future (more on that in another post/issue). On Sunday, four-month old Tampa hardcore outfit Encrypted paid tribute to the venue with a new song, "605" (see Brian Roesler's preview of their show with Yüth Forever here).
"We never wanted to forget where we came from and how this band started," guitarist Cody Baron told CL. "We came up with the idea for '605' because we wanted to represent where we come from in Tampa, 6-0-5 are actually the last three digits to Transitions zipcode."
The band actually came together in early April after close friend Zachary Bruce died in a car accident near Longwood, Florida.
"We didn't find out till the next day," added Baron, 19, "and that's when we all came together that day and decided to start this band in memory of him."
Tonight, Ecrypted play St. Petersburg's Local 662, and it's a move towards finding life after Transitions, where Baron played his first local show. He says a lot of people took the closing to heart, but acknowledged the hard work that promoters have done to start booking at other venues,
"I made some life long best friends there," Baron said. "Our scene is strong and we'll rebuild and set up our new home."
