You might not expect it from Opal Sands’ ultra-modern exterior, but beyond its gleaming lobby (and its well-received but unfortunately named Sea-Guini restaurant) there’s a relaxed and unpretentious beach bar, perched just above a breakwater so you feel as if you’re on the water, not just by it. There’s sand underfoot, friendly service, a row of rocking chairs with the ultimate sunset view, a tiki bar (of course) and a menu of expertly rendered beach-bar standards, from clam chowder to fish tacos to conch fritters. Order a cocktail either familiar (Classic Rum Runner) or creative (Cilantro Ginger Cooler), watch the sunset and remind yourself how nice it is to live in Florida. 430 S.
