Located at 2106 W. Main Street in West Tampa, The Space brought three plays to Tampa last season that no one else thought to offer: Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Was Enuf, Bill Russell and Janet Hood’s Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens, and Stephen Adly Guirgis’s The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. The interior of the theater is still rather rudimentary, but many of the performers were top-notch, and there were strengths in Colored Girls and Elegies any local house would have been proud of. Helming the new space are developer Rob Morris, Executive Director Jared O’Roark, and Artistic Director Erica Sutherlin. In a city that needs more theaters, The Space is very good news. thespaceat2106.com. —Mark Leib
