Edison Food + Drink Lab is closing for the summer, the restaurant announced this week.
“After 14 years of creating, serving and welcoming you, we are taking a summer break to refresh and dream up something extraordinary,” the Monday post reads. “Thank you for every adventurous bite, every craft cocktail, every moment you trusted us to surprise your palates. Stay tuned for the next chapter.”
Owner and chef Jeannie Pierola—a five-time James Beard Award semifinalist—told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the break will allow for deep cleaning during slower summer months.
“And Edison’s looking for a brand refresh, ” Pierola said. “Currently, we’re not at any stage to release information for a reopening date, but reopening isn’t too far out.”
Pierola is also the owner and head chef of Counter Culture on 2909 W Bay to Bay Blvd., which is three miles from Edison on 912 W Kennedy Blvd. That restaurant remains fully operational.
The team at Edison is praised for its rotating menu, which “experiments with everyday food.” Past hits include crispy pork belly with burnt leek black garlic, passionfruit gastrique and baby sorrel, and cracker-fried red snapper with smoked cheddar grits.
Pierola spent 10 years as the executive chef of Bern’s Steakhouse and Haven (formerly SideBern’s). She left the iconic Tampa restaurant brand in 2007 before opening Edison Food + Drink Lab in 2012 and Counter Culture in 2019.
