Banned Books Week promotes awareness of the everlasting fight against censorship, and University of Tampa’s English professor Kacy Tillman kicks it off this Thursday, September 12, with a reading from Stripped and Script: Loyalist Women Writers of the American Revolution.
The rebellion continues with a September 25 lecture (Jordan Carroll’s “Censorship After the So-Called End of Obscenity,” which tackles how obscenity is used to manipulate law to limit publication of sexually explicit material). Banned Books Week concludes with Drag Queen Story Hour (September 28) where kids will hear readings of literature addressing difficult themes like important political issues surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community.
