Where you've seen his work: After taking part in two installments of Platform, the long-established Lakeland art show, Veasey shared the spotlight with established artists — including a former teacher, sculptor Rocky Bridges — at the Dunedin Fine Art Center's Wearable Art 7 earlier this month. Made of knitted, macramed and crocheted fabrics, his dresses and gowns have sexy, hand-crafted appeal.

Where he studied: Harrison School for the Visual and Performing Arts, Lakeland.

Where he is now: Two weeks into his freshman year at New World School of the Arts in Miami, feeling homesick but enjoying the city's beaches and Cuban food.

On his craft: Veasey sources most of the fabrics for his knitted and knotted pieces from thrift stores and estate sales. "I love a bargain," he says. "I mostly work with stretch fabrics: stretch knit or stretch jersey. You can pull them and they turn into tubes of fabric." To make a pale gray minidress, "I bought a big spool of carpeting thread [for $1], and I knitted it into panels," he explains.

Will he return to Tampa Bay? "Yeah, definitely. You think that you really hate where you live, and then when you leave, you miss it so much. I hope to end up showing in Tampa Bay Fashion Week eventually."
