Jersey boy: Hines grew up in Lambertville, NJ, a few miles from where “Barbra Streisand went antiquing.” His parents nurtured his love of the performing arts, taking him to Broadway shows regularly as a child.
Bloody awesome: After graduating from the University of Tampa with a B.A. in theater, he completed a yearlong intensive at the British American Drama Academy in London.
Nowadays: He plans creative fundraising events for a local non-profit social services agency, Directions for Living — “We are gearing up for our largest campaign yet this October, the No Shame Campaign, which is best described as ‘Art meeting Activism’ to help eliminate stigma. We are collaborating with lots of local artists to create a series of creative local experiences. I think this will be really quite an exciting initiative for our area — an opportunity to bring together local artists from all different mediums!”
Stage notes: In his recent show, Confessions, a Cabaret, Hines took on the role of a wayward priest, riffing on private anonymous confessions. He will be performing the show again in the near future (venue, date TBD) in addition to Coco and Homo, his act with Colleen Cherry.
Love connection: The Coco and Homo holiday show brought Hines and his boyfriend together. He met Paul Trusik while playing the audience-participation, marshmallow-eating game “Chubby Bunny,” dressed in boy’s pajamas. “Who knew I’d find love in a onesie!”
