Hadestown intertwines the two Greek myths of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and of King Hades and his wife Persephone.
The play takes the audience through an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back and, according to the Hadestown website, "invites you to imagine how the world could be."
The play is the winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The acclaimed show from celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin is described as, "a love story for today...and always."
Hailed as "Sumptuous. Gorgeous. As good as it gets" by the New York Times, Hadestown is billed as a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
Mitchell's band Bonny Light Horseman also happens to be in Florida for an appearance at Key West's Coast Is Clear festival, so the dreamer in us asked if she'd somehow make it upstate for at least one of the performances. We'll let you know if we hear back.
