Nonprofit arts agency Creative Pinellas has announced its latest chance for budding local artists to earn a career jumpstart.

The organization’s 2023 Emerging Artist Grant is now open for applications. The program is designed to uplift and assist artists early in their professional career with a $2,000 financial grant, mentorship and a spot in a group exhibition.

Applications for the grant are open now until Sept. 6.

Applicants will be selected by a panel of artists and curators based on their work, vision for the future and commitment to sharing their art for the benefit of Pinellas County. Grants will be awarded for original work in various creative disciplines: visual arts, interdisciplinary arts, media arts, music composition, theater and musical theater, choreography and literature.

“With these Emerging Artist Grants, we have been able to and continue to be committed to making space, resources, and recognition available to artists and communities who may not have had such access in the past,” Creative Pinellas CEO Barbara St. Clair said.

The Emerging Artist Grant is now in its sixth year and will select up to 10 artists for the program.

Grantees will be announced on or around Oct. 8. Creative Pinellas will work with artists to match them with a mentor and prepare them for an exhibition at the Creative Pinellas Gallery tentatively set for spring 2023.

Program guidelines, eligibility details and the online application can be found creativepinellas.org.
