9 a.m.-7 p.m. - Nation's Earliest Art Gallery Opening Reception, featuring an interactive, sound-collection performance by AVAACC (1-5 p.m.) and other music-related artworks, in conjunction with Homemade: A Music Symposium at HCC Ybor.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. – Purses and Passion lunch and silent auction to benefit YWCA of Tampa Bay with St. Petersburg fashion designer Ivanka Ska, at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort; $50.

12-3 p.m. – Neighborhood picnic with art events, food, plant workshops, hosted by Community Stepping Stones in conjunction with their “Seeds in the Springs” program to promote urban agriculture in Sulphur Springs, at River Cove Park.

1 p.m. - Film screening, Artists of the Twentieth Century: Andy Warhol, at the Museum of Fine Arts.

6 p.m.-12 a.m. – Snail Mail Art exhibit Art Party at ARTpool; $10.

7-10 p.m. – Saturday Night at the Movies, featuring live music and screenings of a short film by a local filmmaker followed by the documentary Paris was a Woman at 8:30 p.m., at the Industrial Arts Center, Gulfport; suggested $5 donation.

8 p.m.-12 a.m. – Opening reception for Release: Works by Dan Lasata at Café Bohemia. (Pictured above left: work by Dan Lasata.)

9-11 p.m. – Chicago Animation All Stars, a collection of animated shorts presented by Jodie Mack, at the [email protected].

Special shout-out: The weekend's art offerings include an unusual performance to held in conjunction with Homemade: A Music Symposium on Saturday. At HCC Ybor's art gallery, co-collaborators John Russell and Kurt Piazza, aka AVAACC, will embark on an interactive sonic adventure with the help of visitors, recording and remixing sounds gathered at symposium sites throughout the day. The resulting composition will be distributed on a collectible CD at the symposium's end. See Saturday's listings for more information.


5:30-7:30 p.m. – Opening reception for Wild Spirits: Lenné Nicklaus-Ball, Candace Knapp, and Felipe Packard & Ricardo de la Vega at Morean Arts Center.

6-8 p.m. – Opening reception for SAWTOOTH: New Quilts from an Old Favorite and EXPLORATIONS: An Exhibition of Journal Quilts at the Dunedin Fine Art Center; $5, free for members.

7-10 p.m. – Art Auction, featuring work by Charlie Parker, Duncan McClellan, Brian Ransom, Neverne Covington, Chad Mize, Kevin Brady, Herb Snitzer, Carol Dameron and more, in honor of the [email protected]’s fifth birthday, at St. Petersburg Clay Company.
