Catch My Disease: Viral Videos of the Week (10.22.10)

Alright everybody, I have to say. Youtube is just a mess this week. I personally think there might be something funky going on with who/whatever is in charge of counting hits. Every video in the top 20 most viewed videos this week has more than 1 million hits, but a lot of the videos are more than a week old. Is it possible that we've hit viral video re-run week? I certainly hope not because as much as I love Sesame Street's take on Old Spice, I don't think I have that much more to say about it.

Simpsons - banksyfilm

I don't know what you were thinking Banksy, but I wish I were inside your head. If there is one surefire way to get your point out to America, use cartoons. The first time I watched it, I was so prepared for a funny and snarky view of America through the microcosm that is Springfield. The first 30 seconds made me wonder why more than 4 million people have watched it, and then I got to the sight of a room full of women painting cell sheets. Just when I thought it couldn't get any more sickening, they added in a unicorn. There's been a lot of discussion about what Banksy meant by posting this video, but maybe that is what was intended. To spark discussion. What do you think?

Winner of China's Got Talent Final 2010 - Armless Pianist Liu Wei Performed You Are Beautiful - sc0rpiongirl

I'm not really sure what's more impressive about Liu Wei, that he plays piano with his feet or that he brushes his teeth with his feet. What it mostly means is I should stop thinking I'm awesome because I can pick things up with my toes. 13 years after loosing his arms in an accident, Liu Wei is certainly an inspiration for all those who have dexterous toes. He's actually inspired me to exercise my own digits and learn to write with my toes.

Bumblebee Camaro Crash at Transformer 3 Filming in DC - mph4701

Since the crash is relatively unexciting beyond the fact the yellow Camaro hit a renegade police vehicle (as in, it had nothing to do with the movie), I would suggest you stop watching this video at about 20 seconds. Many people who have watched this video are very concerned about what a police vehicle was doing on a closed movie set. They seem to be missing the major concern here. The movie set is for filming Transformers 3. Called The Dark of the Moon, this third installment of Transformers seems to be Fox-less. Apparently, my girl crush, Megan Fox, will not be appearing in this movie. Whatever will us geeks do?

Cataclysm Cinematic Intro - WorldofWarcraft

I failed to notice the publisher of this video the first time I watched it. This resulted in not realizing I was watching a commercial for the next version of World of Warcraft. If you don't know this already, I am a total sucker for action and fantasy movies. I was really excited about this movie with amazing graphics and a fiery dragon. I have nothing against WoW, but I don't understand it on any kind of level. Let me explain myself, I don't really understand any computer/video game more complicated than the bubble breaker app on my phone. I felt a little bit cheated that I got really excited for a Sci-fi or action movie and then it turned into a promo for WoW. Nevertheless, I had to tell you about something more than 4 million people have watched since Oct. 17.

Strange Charm: A Song about Quarks - Vlogbrothers

What do two writers/bloggers/web-celebs know about particle physics? More than me apparently. This musical lesson on the six sub-atomic particles (Up, Down, Strange, Charm, Top, Bottom) called quarks is catchy and has been stuck in my head all day. If college science classes were this interesting, more students might be persuaded to pay attention to the professor. I realize that it isn't viral yet, but this is probably my favorite thing I've seen on Youtube since last week's Sesame Street vid.
