The story: The special thing about our love story isn’t how we met, or how we dated, but how the rest of it went. Two months after we started dating we became pregnant. I already had a 2-year-old daughter and to say that I wasn’t completely freaked out would be a lie. He moved in, we talked about only wanting to get married if we really wanted that and not because we were going to have a child together. Months later we were engaged, and during one magical July weekend in New Orleans we were married. We had eloped! You can find the video on YouTube. Seriously.

In September we experienced tragedy. Our boy had passed in utero at 37 weeks gestation. The statistic is that roughly half of couples who experience the loss of a child separate. The thought never crossed either of our minds. Our commitment to one another never faltered. In fact our love deepened.

I have yet to find the bottom of his love for me.

He is the kindest man, he continues to act as my strongest support. When I met him my daughter was 2; her father had passed away when she was an infant. I had been so busy taking care of her that I hadn’t done much taking care of myself. It was because of my husband’s character and the safe place he gave me that I was able to do the grief work I had been putting aside. How many men do you know  who are secure, kind and loving enough to support their wife while they grieve the death of their last husband? It is incredible.

He continues to show me the depth of his love and the strength of his character. Just last weekend he joined me at the Women’s March. He is my ally in all things.

We have been married for five years now and have three beautiful girls.

Now that’s a love story.
