FreeFall Theatre’s 2021-22 season opened last weekend and if you love old-timey, classic musicals, the St. Pete company’s production of “Dames at Sea”—running through Sunday, Nov. 21—is for you (just ask Creative Loafing Tampa Bay’s theater critic).

I mean who doesn’t love a tap-dancing story about a Broadway bound girl just off the bus that falls for a Broadway bound guy just off a boat? Think “Anything Goes,” cute sailor outfits and all.

This is FreeFall’s first show since early 2020, and the theater asks “patrons who are not yet fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to choose not to attend the theatre until you are vaccinated.” Masks are also required.

Tickets are $45-$55 with shows at 7 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There are no performances Sunday, Oct. 31, Thursday, Nov. 4 and Friday, Nov. 12.

For more information, plus a full list of COVID-19 protocols, go to freefalltheatre.com.

Theater is expensive, and Creative Loafing Tampa Bay devotes editorial budget to writing about it because it’s essential to cover local playwrights, actors and the venues that support them. Support arts journalism in these crazy days and consider making a one time or monthly donation to help support our staff. Every little bit helps.
