Do It Today: Muvi Madness at Centro Ybor, Lone Wolf staged reading and Noche de Open Mic

Just when you think you’ve seen everything the Tampa Bay stage scene has to offer, American Stage serves up a fresh, hot, heaping portion of theatrical goodness that even the most cultured theater buffs have yet to attend – because local playwright Phillip Hall is offering it up for public consumption for the first time ever. Lone Wolf is this week's installment in Hot Off the Press, a staged reading of Hall's play about Annie, who's bringing her boyfriend over for dinner. Pretty innocuous, until you include the fact that her husband and 16-year-old daughter (the smartest one in the room) are there, too. The show is followed by a talkback with the author, when the audience is invited to flex their theatrical muscles and offer a constructive evaluation of the play. Visit americanstage.org for more info. Mon., March 29, 7 p.m., American Stage, St. Petersburg, free.

Students offer spoken word, poetry, rapping and singing at the Coquina Club for Noche de Open Mic. Mon., March 29, 7:30-9:30 p.m., University of South Florida, St. Petersburg.

Besides Avatar and the latest string of Batman flicks, there's not much I'll drop $14 to see in the theater, but the movies just got affordable again: Monday through Thursday, all day and all night, Muvico Muvi Madness gives you entrance to the soda-steeped, popcorn-scented, reclining chair glory of the theater for just $6 a pop. Now I can tell my boyfriend to stop pirating all my must-see movies, see the blockbusters before they hit NetFlix and join in the latest watercooler convos without breaking the bank. Visit muvico.com or call 813-242-0664 for more info. Muvico Centro Ybor, Ybor City.
