Do It Today: Trip to the Ballpark at American Stage and artist Shannon Bennett's Signature Moments in Sports at TMA

We're feeling especially sporty on this manic Monday ...

Signature Moments in Sports by Shannon Bennett is a vivid and immediate collection that highlights more than 40 unique canvas art pieces depicting famous athletes.

Each of the 4-by-5-feet original paintings is signed by the featured sports star. Around 30 pieces will be on display at this first showing of Bennett's collection at the Tampa Museum of Art 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15.

A portion of the proceeds goes toward the foundation or charity of choice of the athletes. Bennett, who turns 30 in November, was an athlete before she became a painter. She won Olympic Gold twice in the Junior Olympics in skeet and trap shooting and qualified for the summer 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney but went on hiatus when her trainer died.

More than 30 professional athletes are expected to attend the gala.

Still reeling from the aftermath of the Rays' failed pennant foray? Get some All-American baseball therapy at a staged reading of Trip to Ballpark, a play based on the true story of Rodgy Rizzle, one of the best pitchers in Major League — who happened to be on one of the worst teams.

Rizzle wants only one thing – his day off.  A whole day away from the diamond with his girlfriend, a few cocktails, a massage and a little grass.  But his day off gets interrupted when he forgets one crucial detail – and the hit of acid he just ate is starting to kick in.

This madcap tale features actor/writer T. Scott Wooten and should strike a chord without striking out.

7 p.m. American Stage, 163 Third St. N., St. Petersburg. Tickets are pay what you can at the door or $15 in advance. americanstage.org.
