Frank Strunk III, "10 Seemingly Unrelated Objects"FREE, 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5The Blue Goose, 48 Dr. MLK, Jr. St. N., St. Petersburg. 727-201-9690
If you hang around downtown St. Pete at all, you've probably seen Frank Strunk III, the well-loved 51-year-old Gulfport artist, around. Strunk, a 20-plus-year veteran of the art scene whose innovative work — a unique blend of gritty-industrial and stressed beauty that can take its form in anything from a light fixture to the stitched-together heart he graciously donated for this year's CL Holiday Auction — is in demand well beyond the borders of the city he calls home, and an energetic supporter of his peers and local hangouts alike.
Which makes the setting of his new show, casually killer downtown St. Pete bar The Blue Goose, so fitting. Tellingly titled "10 Seemingly Unrelated Objects," the exhibition lets you know up front, if not exactly what you're gonna get, then at least what you aren't. Strunk's been teasing fans with photos via Facebook for weeks, and items that'll be on display run the gamut from the playful (a Chinese takeout box) to the, erm, frankly stunning (a camera). Highly recommended.
